Named after “Lucha Libre”, a free fighting sport that is respected and valued throughout Mexico and other Spanish speaking countries, RJ-Romain Jerome unveils a new Historical Icon from its Collaboration collection.
Lucha Libre has entertained Mexicans since the beginning of the 1930’s. The wrestlers, also known as Luchadores are agile and esteemed performers, characterized by colorful and sacred masks. The Masks of the Luchadores have a historical reference which can be traced back to the Aztec era. Nowadays, the masks represent animals, gods or ancient heroes, whose spirits are embodied by the Luchador during the fight. The Luchador goes to great lengths to conceal his identity as removing the mask is a great offence. The masks have therefore become iconic symbols of Mexican pop culture and it is now very common to find the masks incorporated into various forms of art all around the world.
Housed in a 46 mm black PVD-coated steel case, the all black watch allows the eye-catching Luchador to impose his charismatic figure on your wrist and instantly transports you to an arena highly pumped with testosterone. The mask has been hand lacquered in red, green and white, sporting the colours of the Mexican flag. This limited edition of 25 pieces is finished with a black Hornback strap enhancing its sporty and virile look. A customized medallion featuring RJ’s very own Luchador sits on each case back of the Lucha Libre timepiece, waiting patiently for the next fight.
