The new fifth-generation Triton has landed in Malaysia, finally replacing the previous truck that brought with it a designer look that other pickup trucks did not carry. Mitsubishi says the new Triton was developed as the “ultimate sport utility truck” with more space and comfort than before. It also boasts a new 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, lowering CO2 emissions. The new turbo-diesel engine produces 133kW at 3500rpm and 430Nm of torque at 2500Nm at 2500rpm. That is a sizeable increase over the outgoing 2.5-litre’s 100kW and 314Nm diesel engine. The on-road improvement, however, is undeniable with a wider torque spread (25 percent extra at 1500rpm) combining with lighter weight to make the Triton (in any variant) feel highly responsive and flexible.
