FIAT is looking at taking on the Mini Countryman with their latest product. Looking very much like the Countryman the ‘500L’ offers MPV passenger space combined with the feel of a small SUV on the road but restrained by dimensions and efficiency of a B segment car.
The Fiat 500L (‘L’ stands for Lusso, which is Italan for ‘Luxury’ and used before by the FIAT company on previous models, but for this new car it will be known as ‘Large’) will receive the same petrol engines found on the best selling 500 which are the TwinAir and the 1.4-litre. It will also use the turbodiesel engine, 1.3 MultiJet II. Its dimensions are 414 cm long, 178 cm wide and 166 cm high. It is a further development of the concept of ‘cab forward’ design which was introduced by Fiat with the 600 Multipla, compact people carrier. With FIAT’s imminent return back to Malaysia under a new brand guardian, this FIAT 500L could be soon seen on our roads.
