Lamborghini is planning to release a sport SUV to compete with the highly successful Cayenne. The Italian supercar brand, owned by Volkswagen, aims to make this SUV announcement at the April 2012 Beijing auto show looking at a possible 2016 launch. Lamborghini hopes to repeat the Porsche Cayenne’s success in the fast-growing market for luxury SUV’s. The planned vehicle reflects a push to increase profitability at Lamborghini and Volkswagen stable-mate Bentley, with new models to meet upscale demand for all-wheel-drives. Britain’s Bentley last year announced tentative plans for its own SUV which would probably use the underpinnings of the Volkswagen Touareg. To develop the new model, Lamborghini is shelving plans for a four-door sedan.
