This is early images of the all new hatchback from MG which looks too much like a Hyundai i30 or the Volvo V40 from certain angles apart from the nose. The MG5 will be launched in the UK market 18 months from now and will be offered in China very soon. From these pictures, we see that the C-segment-sized hatchback is equipped with angular headlights and it even has prominent creases along the bonnet and front wings. The model intended for China will be powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine that delivers about 105bhp. European models will be offered with a lineup of engines, which is expected to have at least one diesel unit. There were speculations that it would be available with a range of downsized petrol engines with capacities between 1.0 and 1.5-litres.
Its power outputs range from 115bhp to 162bhp. The MG5 offers trim and suspension settings that are significantly different from Chinese market models. It’s likely that the MG5 will be offered just as a five-door hatchback. The MG5 name implies that its dimensions will be between those of the MG6 and MG3, which will be launched in early 2013.
