Without a doubt, the biggest noise at the VW stand in Geneva this year was the GTI version of the latest Mk6 Golf cabriolet. This drop-top carries the classic VW Golf drop-top heritage which was last seen with the Mk3 Golf and it is the most powerful drop-top to have ever come from Volkswagen. It has an output of 207bhp/207lb ft. and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.3sec and it can continue on to hit a top speed of 147mph (146mph with DSG). VW asserts that it has a fuel consumption of 37.2mpg and has CO2 emissions of 177 g/km. In comparison, the tin-top version of this car returns 38.7mpg and emits 170g/km of CO2. Opening the hydraulically operated cloth roof takes 9.5 seconds and it could be operated even up to speeds of 18mph.
The features on VW’s hot cabriolet car are similar to those of the standard GTI’s such as its red-rimmed radiator grille, GTI bumpers, rear diffuser and 17-inch ‘Monza’ alloys, which are covered in 225/45 rubber. Its other features include tartan sports seats as well as a leather-trimmed steering wheel. When the roof is down, the Golf GTI cabriolet’s boot can be as big as 250 liters, which makes it the leader in its class.
