Le Mans is fast approaching, and being the premier endurance racing event of the year, we’re seeing all of the endurance teams kicking into action. The WEC may have multiple legs, but Le Mans is one of the most widely publicized and popular of the series. In addition to that, it is also one of the most difficult tracks to prepare for, because as a street circuit it is only put to use twice a year.
This year’s testing day saw the Audi team focusing on the dynamics of the car, both in terms of mechanical grip and aerodynamic grip. It’s safe to say that Audi has figured out a winning formula when it comes to powertrains, so they leave that area well enough alone and focus on optimizing their setup for their cars while conforming to any changes in the race regulations for 2015.
Over the course of the test day, the drivers covered 3925 kilometers in total. It’s about as close as Audi can get to simulating actual race conditions, and with the lack of interruptions in test scheduling it was easy for them to emulate. Le Mans will be taking place in just 2 weeks, and so over the course of the next few days the teams will be focusing on getting the cars ready for scrutineering.
With Porsche and Toyota ready to give it their all to fight Audi for the podium, this year’s Le Mans is going to be interesting to watch. No doubt there will be mayhem and madness- usually in the form of some Ferrari driver who doesn’t understand the hierarchy of the track- but so long as Nissan and Porsche and Toyota stay in the game, they should be able to give Audi a hard time.
