This design award is one of the most prestigious in the U.S. The A6 family seems to be on a roll as it was recently given the red dot award. The A6 Sedan was able to fend off its competition from around the world to get the Silver Award in the ‘Transportation’ category of the International Design Excellence Award 2012. Wolfgang Egger, Audi’s Head of Design, is glad that the model isn’t admired just by its customers in Europe. Rather, the award is proof that its design idiom is understood and is well-accepted by consumers in the U.S. Egger said that what the Industrial Designers Society of America liked about the model are its dynamic looks and the interplay of design idiom and innovative technology in the A6 Sedan. He added that the brand claim of “Vorsprung durch Technik” indicates that the company considers it very significant to match technology and design perfectly.
The IDEA awards have been in the U.S. for 32 years. The jury consists of 19 high-ranking experts from business, universities and design circles. The Audi A6 family won the red dot award on top of the IDEA award. The international jury applauded the Sedan, the A6 Avant and the A6 allroad Quattro for its excellent design quality. On July 2, the Audi Design Team was handed the award during the red dot presentation ceremony in Essen on July 2.
