During the New York International Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz was the recipient of 3 different World Car of the Year awards. This year they saw five of their models make it into the final round of judging, which is no mean feat for a manufacturer.
This time around, taking the overall car of the year spot was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This entry level luxury sedan comes halfway through the lifespan of the BMW 3 Series, drawing on shifting trends and perspectives in order to appeal to a more current audience. The overall styling has been radically changed from the previous model, as has the interior and feel.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class takes the award for World Luxury Car this year. This represents the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz’ range, the jewel in their crown. While the other German companies have always tended more towards the dynamic aspect of engineering, Mercedes-Benz has managed to maintain their hold on the comfort side of things.
Qualifying just in time for the awards is the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, which took the World Performance Car award. Following on from the legacy of the SLS AMG, the AMG GT adopts a slightly different approach when it comes to sports car performance. Scaled down by a certain degree, it seems to lose a bit of prestige in the pursuit of being a more pure sports car.
