For the sixth consecutive year, Isuzu Malaysia will be providing support to one of Asia’s most formidable off-road challenges, the famed Borneo Safari. This year’s 22nd Borneo Safari that will be held from 28th October till 4th November 2012 will traverse some of the most rugged and demanding terrain in Sabah. As the official media vehicle supplier, Isuzu will once again play a pivotal role in the event, ensuring that members of the press and TV crews do not miss any of the action throughout the event thanks to the amazing off-road capabilities and durability of the official Isuzu D-Max vehicles.
For this year’s event, Isuzu has come out even stronger by taking up the position of diamond sponsor, further recognizing the event’s stature as the region’s premier off-road event. According to CEO of Isuzu Malaysia Kimitoshi Kurokawa, the Borneo Safari has been a formidable challenge for man and machine and creates the ideal platform for Isuzu to underline its prowess as a dominant and extremely capable off-road machine.
“We are once again pleased to play a major role in this year’s Borneo Safari. It is an honour to have been invited by the organisers to once again ensure that the media are able to carry out their duties comfortably and efficiently from the cockpits of the highly-capable Isuzu D-Max.
“We are also pleased to have been named the diamond sponsor of this year’s event. We believe that as the premier 4×4 event in the region, the Borneo Safari shares many synergies with our Isuzu products as both place a strong emphasis to keep going, even in the face of adversity. I congratulate the organising committee for bringing this event to a greater level by introducing more exciting elements into this year’s event,” said Kurokawa.
The 22nd running of the Borneo Safari this year is expected to pose a bigger challenge to competitors and fans alike, as it will traverse 1,000km along the slopes and foothills of Mount Kinabalu. The rocky terrain will be a major feature of this year’s event and vehicles are expected to struggle with grip and performance as the high altitude will be expected to create problems for less-powerful engines.
The two Isuzu D-Max that will lead the media convoy through the jungles of Borneo will be the same units used in last year’s event. The vehicles performed impeccably enough to impress the organisers who unanimously named the Isuzu D-Max ‘Vehicle of the Year’ for its unfaltering performance throughout the event especially since it was essentially a showroom version with no major modifications made to adapt the D-Max for serious off-road conditions.
