If one were to make a sporty E89 BMW Z4, diesel would probably not be first on your list of good ideas. But the German tuner AC Schnitzer think otherwise. Here’s their latest creation: a 5 litre turbodiesel with so much torque, you could probably move a building with this thing.
It’s called the ACZ4 and being an AC Schnitzer product, you can safely assume that very few of its original internals, if any, made it through their process.
So the engine’s pretty big, but what’s with this twin-turbo they’ve bolted on? Let me just stop you there because it’s a tri-turbo. A tri-turbo tuned to help the engine chug out 430hp and – get this – 840Nm of torque. That’s a dangerously high number, and AC Schnitzer saw fit to swap out the gearbox for an ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic. The rear differential comes off of the E92 M3 and the brakes and suspension have been upgraded to bring the car’s drivability to spectacular form.
The ACZ4 is capable of some crazy acceleration, with 0-100km/h taking 4.5 seconds. The car is capable of speeds in excess of 300 km/h but, is unfortunately not available for the general public. For now, the only ACZ4 around exists as a 114,000 euro concept car.
