ABS Added To Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike

Suzuki has announces the addition of the GSX-R1000 ABS to its line of 2015 superbikes, a model that now comes standard with stopping performance bred from technologies conceived, refined, and track-tested in the development of MotoGP machines like the GSX-RR1000. Since its introduction in 2001, the GSX-R1000 has been the most successful motorcycle in AMA Superbike racing, helping create champions nationwide. This continues a 30-year tradition of “Own the Racetrack” GSX-R sportbike performance.

Standard equipment on the 2015 GSX-R1000 ABS (add US$500 to the non-ABS model for an MSRP of US$14,399), the Antilock Brake System monitors wheel speeds to match stopping power to the available traction. This helps prevent wheels from locking up due to hard braking or to changes in road conditions, and enhances brake performance. This lightweight ABS package is based on a proven Suzuki system, but is built specifically for the GSX-R1000.

Up front, the chassis features lightweight 43mm Showa Big Piston Forks (BPF) with an endurance-race-proven design. The fully adjustable forks deliver superb feedback and responsive, stable operation, and they’re easy to tune for the track or the street.

The compact engine enables a short wheelbase and long swing arm for improved racetrack cornering and nimble street handling performance. The short powerplant, plus the three-way adjustable footpegs and shift lever, let the rider fit the motorcycle for a desired blend of comfort and control.

Key Features of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 ABS:

  • 999cc 4-cylinder engine
  • Hemispherical combustion chambers and a compression ratio of 12.9:1.
  • Precision-manufactured 12-hole fuel injectors
  • Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM)-plated cylinders integrated into the upper crankcase.
  • Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) system allows the rider to choose different fuel-injection and ignition-system maps.
  • Pentagonal shaped ventilation holes in the sides of each cylinder bore reduce pumping losses normally caused by internal crankcase air-pressure resistance to downward piston movement.
  • Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) valve maximizes torque and throttle response.
  • Rear shock absorber features adjustable rebound damping and spring pre-load with the fine tuning of both high-speed and low-speed compression damping.
  • Electronically controlled steering damper provides lighter steering at slower speeds and more damping force at racetrack and highway speeds.
  • Race-proven back-torque-limiting clutch contributes to smoother downshifting and corner entry.
  • Close-ratio six-speed transmission using vertically staggered shafts.
