This Denza D9 arrives to shock the recon used MPV segment in Malaysia
These days we have MPVs from a number of vehicle manufacturer in the world. Some refuse to enter this segment and others who previously refused have already prototypes in planning (namely the Europeans).
Meanwhile, the biggest MPV supplier in the world Toyota leads with dozens of models sitting mostly on car platforms and kitted out with the best comfort money can buy. From the minibus sized Toyota Alphard and Vellfire powered by a thirsty petrol powered engine to the compact fuel sipping Toyota Avanza. In between there are models with varied names and features like the Picnic, VOXY and Noah.
For those who prefer purchasing second hand vehicles, the used car lots are not short of luxury and basic MPVs and this is the segment that the Denza D9 will hurt.
ADVANCED STYLING
Denza D9 has interior space and comfort as a priority, without compromising drivability, handling or active safety. This is an ultra-modern vehicle that will attract customers ready for next century transport.
It’s a handsome vehicle with enough chrome in the front to attract attention and the high flat rear confirms its provided headroom for 3rd row passengers. Slab sided and with slightly curved edges, it’s a MPV that will be evergreen, never fade in design.

INTERIOR SPACE AND COMFORT
Get inside the Denza middle row and you will find 2 captain seats that are powered for the best possible comfort. All 7 seats have plush comfort and padding to keep almost all sized torso’s comfortable. 3rd row is of course with less glam and function as it is not powered and with added ‘bling’. But the rivals also cant offer 3rd row ‘bling’. Yet!
Front passenger gets a good space and access to all entertainment controls on the 15.6-inch screen which is Apple and Android ready. There is 14 Dynaudio speakers to entertain and the driver has a 10.25-inch super clear and easy to read digital instrument display. The centre cluster and main instruments have been designed to offer good visibility with minimal line of sight movement
The voice command system is easy to pickup and use and has a multitude of reminders for the driver.
The D9 is 5,250 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,920 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. This means even with 7 passengers on board, you can fit about 7 cabin sized bags in the rear. Full sized check suitcases will only come as a simple pair with 4-5 duffel bags filling in the extra space. The rivals are NO better so there is no issue.

DENZA POWERTRAIN
This Denza is equipped with a front mounted electric motor that delivers 313PS and 360Nm of torque in the lower variant that is priced at RM259k and then there is this all wheel drive variant that delivers 374PS and 470Nm of torque. This variant offers outstanding on road performance and a possible driving distance of 480km (520km for the other variant).
Both variants of D9 come packing a massive 103.6 kWh BYD Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Maximum charging input for this all-electric MPV is 166 kW DC (for a claimed 30% to 80% top up in 30 minutes or an additional 150 km of range in 10 minutes), and only 11 kW when connected to an AC supply.
DENZA DRIVE
Real, on-road performance is excellent and this Denza D9 is exceptionally quiet and comfortable for a vehicle in this class. Even with its large size, parking and moving in tight traffic gets assistance from the excellent 360-degree camera system. Clear and crisp it shows everything on the road and around you.
Yes, it is wide, which means like its many rivals from Korea and Japan, parking in most multi-storey malls/hotel car parks like Midvalley, M Hotel and older buildings will be almost impossible. Jockey parking will be necessary.
Even trying to drive in the older neighborhoods with narrow roads will be an issue. Still, it’s a great long distance transporter and the best 1st class land travel machine for high net worth executives.
