We’ve seen how relatively new and unknown Chinese brands have come to completely dominate the electric vehicle market with products that are mass market with premium aspirations. Traditional players are putting up a fight but those on the fringes need to work extra hard to stay relevant. Audi and Genesis are both very left field premium marques, and they’ve both coincidentally come up with off-road electric vehicles of their own within a month of each other.
From Audi, we get the Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept and from Genesis we have the GV60 Mountain Intervention Vehicle.
Audi Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept: Power Meets Innovation
Unveiled at the World Cup weekend in Kitzbühel, Austria, the Audi Q6 e-tron offroad concept demonstrates how electric vehicles can excel in extreme conditions. The prototype features dual electric motors generating 380 kW of combined power.
Revolutionary Portal Axle Technology
Audi’s engineers have developed an innovative portal axle system that delivers:
- 50% increased torque at the wheels
- Combined wheel torque of 13,400 Nm at peak
- Enhanced ground clearance with a 160mm ride height increase
- 250mm wider track for improved stability
The portal axles used on the Audi enable more 50% more torque delivery at the wheel but lowers its top speed to 175km/h, which is a good trade off for something designed to climb 45-degree gradients.
Genesis GV60 Mountain Intervention Vehicle: Korean Innovation
Genesis unveiled their GV60 Mountain Intervention Vehicle (MIV) Concept at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland. It was designed emissions-free for snow rescues.
- Silent electric operation, reducing noise pollution in sensitive areas
- Vehicle-to-load (V2L) system for powering emergency equipment
- Heavy-duty roof rack and modular attachment points
- Carbon fiber fender flares for enhanced protection
The GV60 MIV Concept was modified with a custom heavy-duty roof rack and a rear hatch rack with modular attachment points. Besides that, it features medical supplies and emergency communication and warning systems for rescue operations while retaining sports seats.
