Chery Delivers Discounted Vehicles To Malaysian Paralympic Medalists

Two of Malaysia’s Paralympic champions took delivery of their discounted Chery Omoda vehicles.

Chery Malaysia demonstrated its commitment to Paralympic sports by hosting a vehicle delivery ceremony for Malaysian Paralympic medalists at their Glenmarie, Selangor showroom on January 21, 2025. The event featured the handover of specially discounted vehicles to Paralympic athletes who achieved excellence in international competitions.

Paralympic champions Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and Cheah Liek Hou received the OMODA 5 and OMODA E5 respectively during the ceremony. Powerlifting gold medalist and world record holder Bonnie Bunyau Gustin has also secured a TIGGO 8 PRO, though he was unable to attend the event.

The automotive manufacturer implemented a tiered discount system for Paris 2024 athletes:

  • 50% discount for gold medalists on select SUV models
  • 30% discount for silver medalists and athletes reaching semifinals/finals
  • 15% discount for all Olympic and Paralympic qualifiers

The discount applies to Chery’s premium SUV lineup, including the TIGGO 8 PRO, OMODA 5, and OMODA E5 models. Chery Malaysia has previously awarded a TIGGO 7 PRO to bronze medalist Lee Zii Jia.

Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting Malaysian athletics. In 2024, Chery organized various sporting events, including:

  • Chery Eco Run in Putrajaya
  • Media badminton tournament
  • Borneo marathon
  • GFNY Kuala Lumpur cycling event
  • CSR project with JDT football club

Chery Malaysia announced plans to collaborate with the Malaysian Youth Council on upcoming sports development projects. The company aims to encourage youth participation in sports and promote active lifestyles among the general public.

The ceremony was attended by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Paralympic Council Malaysia President Dato’ Sri Megat D. Shahriman Bin Dato’ Zaharudin, and senior Chery Malaysia executives, including Country Director Forrest Cheng and Vice Presidents Michael Chew and Cheng Nam Weng.
