Rolls-Royce Celebrates A Century Of Perfection With The New Phantom

See why the Rolls-Royce Phantom has been the benchmark for perfection for 100 years on

In 2025, Rolls-Royce celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Phantom, the marque’s most iconic and luxurious model. Since its debut in 1925, the Phantom has consistently represented the pinnacle of automotive excellence, combining unparalleled craftsmanship, cutting-edge engineering, and timeless design.

The Phantom’s journey began with the “New Phantom” model, which succeeded the Silver Ghost in 1925. It was marketed as the best car in the world, and its luxurious features set new standards for automotive engineering. Over the decades, each generation of the Rolls-Royce Phantom has embraced advancements in technology and materials, while maintaining its core values of elegance, comfort, and bespoke luxury.

Moreover, today, the Phantom continues to be a blank canvas for customization, with clients commissioning one-of-a-kind designs inspired by art, culture, and history. One of Phantom’s key distinctions is its bespoke nature, allowing customers to personalize everything from materials to intricate details.

Models like the Phantom Syntopia, Phantom Goldfinger, and Phantom Scintilla highlight the limitless possibilities for customization, making each car a unique masterpiece. The current eighth generation, built at Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood facility, is the ultimate expression of this bespoke vision.

The Phantom’s legacy also began with the Silver Ghost, launched in 1906, which earned Rolls-Royce the title of “the best car in the world.” By 1921, Henry Royce recognized the need for a successor to the Silver Ghost, leading to the creation of the Phantom. The name, believed to be coined by Rolls-Royce’s Claude Johnson, conjures images of quiet, ethereal elegance.

On top of that, through the years, the Phantom evolved to meet changing customer demands. In the 1930s, the introduction of the V12 engine in Phantom III provided more power while maintaining the brand’s signature comfort. Post-World War II, Rolls-Royce adapted to a new world by simplifying production with the Rationalised Range, but the Phantom name remained synonymous with luxury.

The Phantom VI, launched in 1968, marked the final body-on-chassis model before the brand shifted to a more modern design approach. The launch of the Phantom VII in 2003 marked the beginning of a new era for the brand, entirely hand-built at Goodwood. The latest iteration, Phantom VIII, introduced the Architecture of Luxury and remains the epitome of bespoke craftsmanship.

Throughout its history, Phantom has remained the ultimate symbol of luxury, constantly evolving without compromising its core values. As Rolls-Royce celebrates 100 years of Phantom, it continues to embody the pinnacle of automotive luxury, craftsmanship, and innovation.
