Japanese Auto Brands Reverse Export Rise In 2024 Thanks To Made In India Models

Japanese Auto brands are seeing healthy export numbers as of late, congrats to them

Exports of Japanese cars from India have been steadily rising in recent years, driven by a combination of cost advantages, cheap labor, and improving production technology in India. These factors have made India an increasingly attractive location for Japanese car manufacturers to set up production hubs, allowing them to manufacture vehicles at a lower cost and then export them back to Japan.

As a result, India has become a key player in the global automotive supply chain. One of the main reasons for the growth in exports of Japanese cars from India is the cost advantage that manufacturing in India offers.

Moreover, Japanese automakers can produce vehicles in India at a fraction of the cost compared to Japan, thanks to India’s affordable labor force. This cost competitiveness enables manufacturers to offer vehicles at more competitive prices in international markets, including Japan.

Additionally, improvements in India’s automotive production technology have played a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and quality of vehicle manufacturing. As Indian automotive factories adopt advanced production techniques, they can reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining high-quality standards.

This has also made Indian-made cars more attractive to Japanese consumers and automakers alike. Several popular Japanese car models are now being manufactured in India and exported back to Japan. For example, the Honda Elevate is exclusively produced in India and is sold as the WR-V in Japan.

On top of that, similarly, the Jeep Meridian, a seven-seater SUV made in India, is sold as the Commander in Japan. Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx, an SUV produced in India, was the company’s first vehicle to be launched in Japan. These examples highlight the growing trend of Japanese automakers relying on India as a production hub for vehicles intended for the Japanese market.

Other companies, such as Mitsubishi Motors, have also been involved in reverse-importing vehicles made in India. Mitsubishi’s Triton pickup truck, produced in Thailand, has been one such example of reverse imports benefiting from India’s automotive manufacturing expertise. The increase in exports of Japanese cars from India brings multiple benefits to the country.

First, it significantly boosts India’s economy by contributing to higher export revenues and creating more job opportunities within the automotive sector. Plus, this trend enhances India’s global image as a manufacturing hub, showcasing the country’s growing capabilities in producing high-quality vehicles at competitive prices.
