This brutal accident took place along Sutong Baru Street yesterday afternoon
A horrific accident on Stutong Baru Street in Kuching yesterday afternoon has resulted in 4 fatalities and 5 injuries, involving three cars and two motorcycles. The incident has left the vehicles involved practically unrecognizable, further highlighting the severity of the crash. Here’s what you need to know.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Authorities say that the accident occurred when three cars and two motorcycles collided when a 16-year-old driver crashed his Proton Saga into four other vehicles near Kuching Airport Road yesterday, 14 January, resulting in five deaths and multiple injuries.
Moreover, Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the Proton Saga veered into the opposite lane and collided with four other vehicles, another Proton Saga, a Toyota Altis, and two motorcycles. The severity of this crash cannot be understated as the vehicles involved were all mangled beyond recognition.
The fatal crash occurred at around 12.50pm when the teenager lost control of his vehicle while travelling from Jalan Lapangan Terbang towards Jalan Setia Raja, reported the New Straits Times. Meanwhile, the teenage driver of the Proton Saga survived but sustained neck injuries, and is currently receiving treatment at HUS.
He has been detained by police for driving without a licence. On the other hand, four victims, aged 16 to 45, including a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, a motorcyclist, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (HUS). Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all involved.
On top of that, the accident most likely caused a major traffic jam in the area, as the authorities would take such a case very seriously and want to push for a thorough investigation. Of course, the very Malaysian habit a lot of us seem to have of slowing down to take pictures of any crash also wasn’t any help, I wager.
We here at DSF offer our condolences to all parties involved and would like to remind all our readers to always stay safe and alert while on and off the road so we never have to report on these things.
