Every car enthusiast has a story to tell about how they fell in love with cars, what’s yours?
Okay, so obviously we here at DSF are car enthusiasts, and we are very lucky that we were given the chance to be in this industry, after all, the old adage goes, ”If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” I believe Confucious said this and I agree as ever since I started this job, I have been happier than ever before.
I know it sounds like I’m bragging but I am not. I simply want to share my story as well as a couple others from friends of mine about how we first fell in love with cars in the first place. I first want to credit our editor, Mr. Daniel Fernandez, Mr. Keshy Dhillon, editor at Piston.my as well as my friend, Gwendolynn Samuel at Proton for inspiring me to write this today.
Okay, So I studied journalism in university and thus, I like to conduct interviews when I want to know more about something. Because of this, I often like to talk to my friends about how they first got into the expensive hobby of liking cars and for me, this began with my dad’s generation 1 Proton Saga, the car I learned to drive in.
Moreover, the Saga in question was already older than me and had been with my father long before I was born. It was also a manual which made the whole process of learning how to dive it far more fun. There is something raw and emotional about driving older cars as the mechanical feel is no longer a thing in newer cars.
For me, driving is not just a means of getting from A to B, it should be enjoyed, and my dad’s next car, the pre-facelift Proton Waja, was no exception. Also a manual, it is not hard to see why I grew up loving Proton’s ride and handling as well as manual transmissions so in my case, while the Fast and Furious movies helped, I love cars mainly because I like the feeling of driving.
On the other hand, I have a good friend, whom I shall not name to keep his identity anonymous. He fell in love with Porsches first and has a keen eye for the mechanical side of cars that I lack. He also works in the Automotive industry and was lucky enough to drive some of his dream cars as a result, but it all started when he heard that flat six roar.
On top of that, I have another very close friend who bought a used Proton Putra as his first car and loved the thing to death. He modified it and upgraded it every chance he got and while he is now a bit older and wiser, he owns a Volkswagen Golf and uses it as his daily driver. His love for cars all began with that Putra though.
So in essence, we all love cars for many different reasons but at the end of the day. So what about you? What got you into cars? Let us know.
