The Mitsubishi Triton has proven it is not just practical, it is also good looking
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (Mitsubishi Motors) has announced that its all-new Triton one-ton pickup truck has won the prestigious Design Car of the Year award at the 2024-2025 Japan Car of the Year awards. This award, which recognizes excellence in both exterior and interior design, marks the second time Mitsubishi Motors has received this honor.
The company was previously recognized last year for the Delica Mini super height-wagon kei-car. The Triton’s design was lauded by the organizing committee for its rugged yet inspiring aesthetic, which encourages customers to embrace an adventurous lifestyle.
Moreover, the truck’s exterior design was particularly praised for its harmony between the bold Dynamic Shield front-end styling and its robust form. Despite being a double cab, the Triton maintains well-balanced proportions, enhancing its visual appeal. The all-new Triton’s design is rooted in the “Beast Mode” concept, reflecting the toughness and power one expects from it.
Its imposing look combines ruggedness with agility. The Dynamic Shield front design blends a three-dimensional grille with powerful fenders and protectors, reinforcing the vehicle’s strength and performance. This combination of design elements ensures the Triton stands out as both a powerful and protective vehicle, perfectly suited for a pickup truck.
Inside the Triton, the instrument panel is also designed around the Horizontal Axis concept, which uses a strong horizontal layout to help drivers easily notice the vehicle’s posture during driving. The interior is designed with a professional feel, incorporating soft pads in key areas for passenger protection.
On top of that, geometric shapes and metallic elements create a modern, high-contrast environment. The vehicle’s controls, including dials and switches, are designed to be easily visible and operable, even while wearing gloves. Following the Mitsubishi Touch approach, the steering wheel, grips, and door handles are all designed for comfort and sturdiness.
The Triton, a one-ton pickup truck that traces its origins back to the 1978 Forte model, has been produced in over five generations, with more than 5.7 million units sold in around 150 countries. As Mitsubishi Motors’ global strategic model, the Triton has become an essential part of the brand’s lineup.
Developed with the product concept “Power for Adventure,” the all-new Triton underwent a complete redesign, from its exterior and interior to the chassis, ladder frame, and engine. The vehicle was first launched in Thailand in July 2023 and will be introduced in Japan in February 2024.
It will be rolled out sequentially in over 100 countries worldwide. Beyond commercial use, the Triton appeals to adventurous customers, offering opportunities for outdoor activities such as water and winter sports.
