Can this Audi Q8 e-tron Quattro compete with its German rivals in Malaysia
Since the introduction of the Audi e-tron globally about four years ago it has seen sales of slightly more than 150,000 units around the world. This number includes the electric SUV we are looking at here, which is the Q8 e-tron. In Malaysia, Audi only introduced the Q8 e-tron in June 2023 and there were 4 variants to choose from.
Since its arrival in Malaysian showrooms, this electric Q8 has had to compete with the BMW 1X and Mercedes-Benz EQ SUV’s which have established themselves a few years earlier.
So, being ‘late’ to the party left Audi in Malaysia to push their dealers aggressively to get EV consumers attention.
Meanwhile, there was competition from Lotus with the Eletre SUV that was priced from RM578k. Yes, the Lotus is much more expensive, but it carries the iconic ‘Lotus’ logo and heritage.
To start, this is a handsome looking SUV. Its muscular and proportioned right. Audi hardly ever disspaoints in this department and their designs are almost always evergreen (which means they do not fade way).
So, we get into this Q8 e-tron and like all new Audi’s it is very well built with a high quality look and feel. The cabin technology is easy to use and not layers with too many functions to confuse the first-timer.
Yes, Audi in car tech is simpler and easier to learn and navigate. Ignite the battery powered powertrain and you glide away in a well insulated cabin.
There is no hesitation from the electric motors and its momentum is quick, remember, this is large and heavy electric SUV with wide rubbers on large wheels.
This Audi Q8 e-tron is a top-of-the-line electric SUV that will impress with its possible driving range of up to 582 kilometers (in accordance with the WLTP)
Balancing act between comfort and sportiness
This Audi Q8 e-tron comes standard with an air-spring suspension with controlled shock absorption. The height of the car body can be varied by a total of 76 millimeters, depending on the driving situation.
Moreover, its electronic stability control (ESC) will allow for great maneuverability in tight corners. It also handles with agility thanks to its revised progressive steering. The gear ratio of the steering system responds much more quickly, even when making delicate steering movements.
High-resolution touch displays and voice control
Like all luxury-class Audi models, this Q8 e-tron uses the MMI touch response operating system. Its two large high-resolution displays, the top one with a 10.1-inch diagonal and the bottom one with an 8.6-inch diagonal to replace nearly all conventional switches and knobs.
