Hyundai IONIQ 9 3-Row Electric SUV Unveiled

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 is the sister to the Kia EV9.

Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the IONIQ 9, a three-row all-electric SUV tailored to meet the needs of modern, connected families. Designed under the theme “Built to Belong,” this latest addition to the IONIQ lineup blends cutting-edge technology with practical design to redefine what consumers can expect from electric SUVs.

Expansive Interior for Maximum Comfort

The IONIQ 9 offers an expansive cabin capable of seating up to seven occupants. A flat floor design enhances the spaciousness, while features like Relaxation Seats in the first and second rows—complete with a Dynamic Body Care system for massage and fatigue relief—prioritize passenger comfort. For family bonding or leisure use, second-row swiveling seats can rotate to face the third row when the vehicle is stationary, promoting interaction among passengers.

With the rear seats folded, the IONIQ 9 offers up to 1,323 liters of cargo space, while even with all seats in use, it provides a respectable 620 liters. A front trunk (88 liters for RWD models, 52 liters for AWD) adds extra storage versatility.

Innovative Interior Features and Sustainability

The SUV’s interior exudes sophistication with elliptical elements, calming tones, and ambient lighting. A panoramic curved display integrates a 12-inch cluster and 12-inch infotainment screen, complemented by options like a premium BOSE 14-speaker sound system. Sustainability is at the forefront, with materials like recycled PET fabric, bio-based leather, and eco-friendly paint derived from tire waste.

A standout feature is the Universal Island 2.0, a movable console that offers 18.2 liters of storage across its upper and lower trays. The console’s sliding mechanism ensures accessibility from any row.

Sleek Aerosthetic Design

The IONIQ 9’s aerodynamic exterior is defined by Hyundai’s “Aerosthetic” design philosophy. A smooth roofline, flush body panels, and features like a dual-motion active air flap contribute to a remarkably low drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd.

Signature Parametric Pixel lighting adorns the LED headlights and tail lamps, while wheel options range from 19-inch to a top-tier 21-inch Calligraphy design. The vehicle is available in 16 colors, including exclusive new shades like Celadon Gray Matte and Ionosphere Green Pearl.

Advanced Powertrain and Performance

Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 9 comes equipped with a high-voltage 110.3 kWh battery, delivering an estimated 620 km range (WLTP) for the Long-Range RWD model with 19-inch wheels. Charging from 10% to 80% takes just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger.

The SUV offers three performance variants:
• Long-Range RWD: 160 kW motor with a 0–100 km/h time of 9.4 seconds.
• Long-Range AWD: Adds a 70 kW front motor, achieving 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
• Performance AWD: Dual 160 kW motors for a 0–100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds.

Each model features Hyundai’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, enabling the use of the car’s battery to power external devices and appliances.

Smart, Driver-Centric Technologies

The IONIQ 9 is packed with intelligent features to enhance the EV experience. The Hyundai AI Assistant integrates voice recognition for seamless interactions, while over-the-air updates ensure the latest software enhancements. A digital key allows smartphone access, and a rear-independent climate system minimizes power consumption during leisure activities.

For towing enthusiasts, the IONIQ 9 offers impressive capacity: up to 2,500 kg in Europe and 5,000 lbs in North America. A Terrain Traction Control System optimizes performance on challenging road conditions.

Safety and Refinement

Safety and comfort go hand in hand in the IONIQ 9. Features like digital side mirrors (available in select markets) improve visibility and aerodynamics. Reinforced structural elements, triple sealing, and Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) reduce cabin noise for a serene driving experience.

The suspension system is tailored for electric SUVs, incorporating self-leveling dampers and hydro-bushing for enhanced ride quality.

Launch and Availability

The IONIQ 9 is set to debut in Korea and the U.S. in early 2025, with subsequent rollouts planned for Europe and other markets. As Hyundai’s most advanced electric SUV to date, the IONIQ 9 promises a compelling blend of innovation, style, and practicality for eco-conscious families and adventurers alike.

The IONIQ 9 cements Hyundai’s position as a leader in electric mobility, delivering forward-thinking solutions tailored to the evolving needs of consumers. Whether for daily commutes or long-distance travel, this three-row electric SUV sets a new benchmark for what an EV can achieve.
