Award-Winning Hyundai IONIQ 6: Overshadowed In Malaysia By Cheaper Rivals

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is now available at a more reasonable price and with pre-reg units too.

The Hyundai IONIQ 6, available in Malaysia with the variant models priced from RM219,888 to RM249,888, stands a testament to electric vehicle excellence in the local automotive landscape. For budget-conscious buyers, pre-registered units with delivery mileage are currently available from as low as RM155,888 as part of their year-end sales promotion. This remarkable Electrified Streamliner has garnered worldwide recognition, most notably securing an unprecedented triple crown at the 2023 World Car Awards.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 side profile

The IONIQ 6 simultaneously claimed the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year awards at the New York International Auto Show. This remarkable feat, decided by a distinguished panel of 100 automotive journalists from 32 countries, marks the second consecutive year Hyundai has dominated these categories, following the IONIQ 5’s success in 2022.

The IONIQ 6’s distinctive streamlined design isn’t just about aesthetics – it achieves an impressive drag coefficient of 0.21, making it one of the most aerodynamically efficient vehicles in production. This engineering excellence translates to real-world benefits, with the vehicle capable of achieving a WLTP-rated range of 614 kilometers on a single charge.

For Malaysian drivers considering the switch to electric mobility, the IONIQ 6’s cutting-edge 800V architecture enables ultra-fast charging capabilities. The vehicle can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes, making it highly practical for both urban commuting and long-distance travel. The standard 2WD model demonstrates remarkable efficiency with a WLTP-rated energy consumption of just 13.9 kWh/100 km.

Inside the cabin, the IONIQ 6 showcases Hyundai’s commitment to innovative design and functionality. The generous 2,950mm wheelbase creates a spacious interior that serves as a personal studio on wheels. Premium features include Dual Color Ambient Lighting, Speed Sync Lighting, and Electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD), elevating the electric driving experience for Malaysian consumers.

The vehicle’s excellence extends beyond its core features, as evidenced by its impressive collection of accolades. The IONIQ 6 has been named ‘Saloon of the Year’ at the 2023 GQ Car Awards and received ‘New Car of the Year’ honors from Le Guide de l’auto. Safety-conscious Malaysian buyers will be reassured by its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and ‘Best in Class’ designation in the ‘Large Family Car’ category.

While it has been available in Malaysia for more than a year, the IONIQ 6 continues to be overshadowed by rivals imported from China such as the Tesla Model 3 and the BYD Seal as these vehicles come in below the RM200,000 mark and thus represent greater value for money. That being said, the IONIQ 6 is a much more distinct vehicle and doesn’t fall short of those competitors in terms of its specifications, range and feature set. So, if you’re in the market for an electric vehicle that breaks the mold, head to your nearest Hyundai showroom and take the IONIQ 6 for a spin.
