What do you think is a fair selling price for the Proton eMas 7 electric car
Right now, Proton e.MAS 7, as the nation’s first EV brand is on a nationwide tour. The idea is for the Proton e.MAS 7 to engage Malaysians around the country and provide them with the opportunity to get up and close with the vehicle first hand as it covers well over 2,000km across diverse terrains and landscapes ranging from coastal roads to state roads, while showcasing its capabilities.
In case you were wondering, this battery powered vehicle is a rebadged Geely Galaxy E5 EV which has already seen good sales and market response in China. For Malaysia, there will be some retuning of the suspension system as ‘it is said’ that Malaysian roads are not as ‘friendly’ as the roads in China.
Meanwhile, we have a number of fully imported Chinese electric vehicle brands selling their fully imported new EV’s in Malaysia without any issue. Well, we will wait and see.
Incidentally, the e.MAS 7 will be sold in 29 new dealerships across the nation. The e.Mas 7 will be equipped with a front-mounted electric motor producing 218PS and 320Nm of torque. The power unit is a Geely-developed Aegis LFP battery pack, available in two capacities: 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh. The claimed range is up to 530km (CLTC), which translates to approximately 420km under the WLTP standard.
Meanwhile, here is an interesting fact to take note, in just over a month, the Galaxy E5 achieved August sales in China of 12,230 units, setting a new benchmark as the first A-segment all-electric SUV in China to exceed 10,000 sales in its launch month.
Will it be able to replicate that sales success here in Malaysia? Well, with a price tag of RM88k for sure, a price tag of RM98k, maybe and with a price tag of RM108k, will be a little tough as the recently launch BYD M6 EV is priced at RM109k.
