Isuzu D-Max Achieves Remarkable 2,000km Journey on Single Tank

3 variants of the Isuzu D-Max prove they can return 2,000 km on a single tank of diesel.

In an impressive demonstration of fuel efficiency, three Isuzu D-Max pickup trucks have accomplished an extraordinary feat, traveling 2,000 kilometers on a single 76-liter tank of fuel. This achievement not only showcases the vehicle’s exceptional fuel economy but also earns it a place in the Malaysian Book of Records for the “Longest Distance Driven in a Pick-up Truck with a Single Tank of Fuel.”

Breaking New Ground

The challenge, known as the Dura Miles Challenge, put three different models to the test:

  • The 1.9-liter 4×2 Auto Plus
  • The popular 1.9-liter 4×4 Auto Premium
  • The top-tier 3.0-liter 4×4 X-Terrain

The journey began in Phitsanulok, Thailand, approximately 300km north of Bangkok, and concluded in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. This marks the first endurance test for the third-generation Isuzu D-Max, featuring updated Euro 4 engines that combine enhanced power delivery with superior fuel efficiency.

Building on Past Successes

This isn’t the first time Isuzu has demonstrated its vehicles’ exceptional fuel economy. Previously, the D-Max completed an 1,809km journey from Bangkok to Singapore on one tank. In another notable achievement, a 1.9-liter Single Cab model, loaded with a metric ton of cargo, covered over 1,000 kilometers while conquering three mountains, each exceeding 1,000 meters in elevation.

Official Verification

The Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) provided official oversight for the challenge. A technical steward sealed the fuel tanks and verified that no additional fuel was added throughout the journey, ensuring the legitimacy of the accomplishment.

Leadership Perspectives

At the celebration event held at the new Ultra Gallant Isuzu 3S Centre in Klang, Isuzu Malaysia CEO Shunsuke Okazoe emphasized that this achievement highlights Isuzu’s engineering excellence in developing Blue Power diesel engines that exceed expectations. “While we don’t expect every customer to drive 2,000 kilometers on one tank, this demonstrates the exceptional engineering in every Isuzu vehicle,” Okazoe stated.

Light Commercial Vehicle Division COO Kenkichi Sogo added that this achievement benefits all Isuzu D-Max owners, particularly in times of rising fuel costs. He highlighted the vehicle’s versatility, noting its success in various scenarios from conquering jungle trails in the Borneo Safari to comfortable family transport and efficient goods delivery.

Practical Implications

For potential buyers and current owners, this accomplishment reinforces the D-Max’s reputation for cost-effective operation. The combination of versatility and fuel efficiency makes it an attractive option for both commercial operators and private users seeking a dependable pickup truck.

The Future of Efficiency

The 2024 Isuzu D-Max models feature not only improved fuel efficiency but also a stylish, aerodynamic exterior design. This balance of form and function demonstrates Isuzu’s commitment to evolving their vehicles while maintaining their core strength of exceptional fuel economy.

As diesel prices continue to fluctuate, the Isuzu D-Max’s proven fuel efficiency provides a compelling argument for cost-conscious consumers looking for a vehicle that doesn’t compromise on performance or capability.
