MG 5 Officially Launched In Malaysia With RM86,900 Introductory Price

The MG 5 has officially been launched by SAIC Motor Malaysia.

Just over a month ago, SAIC Motor Malaysia previewed the MG 5 and today they have officially launched the car. The MG 5, styled MG5, is a B-segment petrol car that goes up against traditional non-national rivals from Japan like the Honda City and Toyota Vios. It will be the first Chinese brand to go directly against these two solid options. Proton’s S70, which has its roots in China’s Geely Emgrand but Proton markets the S70 as a C-segment vehicle.

As for SAIC Motor Malaysia, they’re marketing the MG 5 as the longest and widest B-segment vehicle in the market. Here are its measurements:

With an introductory price of RM86,900, the MG 5 looks to be an extremely good value-for-money option for those looking to upgrade from a national car. The engine is a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol 4-cylinder with an output of 114PS and 150Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via an 8-speed iCVT automatic gearbox. MG claims it has done 2.35 million kilometers of durability testing with this vehicle.

A single variant is being sold in Malaysia and it’s quite well equipped. You’ll find a 10.25″ floating infotainment unit, a 7″ LCD virtual cockpit, a 360-degree parking camera, a 6-speaker sound system, single zone digital air cond controls with rear air vents, PM 2.5 air filtration, ra leather-wrapped steering wheel, a powered sunroof, automatic LED healights, 17″ alloy wheels, and 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. The interior is upholstered in black leather with red accents.

In terms of safety, you get 6 airbags the usual suite of braking and stability aids plus MG Pilot, which brings:

There’s a 7-year unlimited mileage warranty on the powertrain, a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty on the rest of the vehicle. Pricing will return to RM93,900 after the promo period.
