BYD M6 Electric MPV Coming To Malaysia At RM115k

BYD M6 is BYD’s first compact MPV model and it is all electric

Just a few months ago, BYD launched its all-electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) BYD M6 at the 31st GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

It was back in May 2024 that the right hand drive version of the BYD M6 made its first appearance and M6 is sized very similar to the Honda Stream (which has been long discontinued). This M6 measures at 4710mm, 1810mm and 1880 mm and it has a 2785mm wheelbase.

The entry-level model is equipped with a single motor with a maximum power of 163 horsepower and a peak torque of 310 Nm and so the high-end model ‘Superior’ uses the same motor as the very popular BYD Atto 3, with an output power of 204 horsepower and a 0-100 acceleration time of 10.1 seconds and 8.6 seconds respectively.

The BYD M6 is equipped with BYD blade batteries as standard, with NEDC ranges of 420 km and 530 km respectively (yes, there are two variants).

The fast charging power can reach up to 115 kW, and the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 40 minutes which is about right for electric vehicles in this price range.

Interestingly, this BYD M6 has practical functions such as keyless entry, one-button start, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, 360-degree panoramic imaging, etc. High-end models also add comfort configurations such as panoramic skylight, front seat ventilation, wireless smartphone charging and an electric tailgate.

In terms of safety, the M6 is equipped with 6 airbags and body stability control system as standard. High-end models are also equipped with active safety systems, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and automatic high beam.

Its arrival in Malaysia comes a few months after a launch in India in July 2024.

So, how much will it be priced in Malaysia? Well, the Indonesian selling price is from DR 379 million to IDR 429 million which means a possible Malaysian price of RM115,000 to RM119,000.

So, which electric vehicle will be the direct rival to this new BYD? Lets start with the Proton e:MAS 7 which we guess to be priced at RM108k or so and let not forget the GAC AION Y Plus e-MPV which has started selling for RM119,800.

So, will you buy a BYD M6 MPV or the e:MAS 7?
