The compact SUV segment is starting to get crowded. Mazda is working on a new small SUV. Dubbed CX-3, the crossover will be based on the next-generation Mazda2 compact car and is set to compete against the Ford EcoSport, Opel Mokka and the Nissan Juke. The Mazda CX-3 will benefit from all the SkyActive technology now being used in the CX-5 and new Mazda6 along with two new small engines. The new engines are the 1.3 liter turbo unit and a 1.6 liter diesel. In this class, two wheel drive small SUV’s outsell AWD versions, so the new crossover may be offered as a front wheel drive model only. Practically will be the key on the new CX-3 and the Japanese engineers are working on a special seat layout to enhance the cabin and give this CX-3 a competitive advantage over the Juke.
