Celerate 130 excellent years with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport
Mercedes-AMG is celebrating 130 years of motorsport heritage with the launch of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport. This limited-edition vehicle pays homage to the brand’s rich racing history, which began with the Paris-Rouen race on July 22, 1894, where a Daimler-engine car emerged victorious.
The GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, unveiled at the Pebble Beach Automotive Week, blends cutting-edge technology with classic 1950s racing aesthetics. With a staggering 680 hp, this special GT3 model is the most powerful ever produced by Mercedes-AMG. It also marks the final version of the GT3 to feature a naturally aspirated engine.
Moreover, limited to just 13 units worldwide, this collector’s item integrates modern technology with historical design cues. The GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport boasts an improved aerodynamic profile, including a redesigned front splitter, air outlets, and side skirts. These enhancements increase downforce by 15 percent over the base GT3 model.
The car also features a Drag Reduction System (DRS) that adjusts the rear wing to reduce drag at high speeds, allowing top speeds of over 315 km/h. Carbon brakes and a lightweight design further enhance performance, making it notably lighter than homologated GT3 models. Inside, the vehicle combines advanced racing technology with nostalgic touches.
On top of that, the cockpit features a Bosch DDU 10 display, and the interior design is inspired by the 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR 300, with blue chequered fabric and brown leather accents. A specially developed steering wheel and edition badge complete the look.
On 17 February 2024, Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver Jules Gounon set a new track record for GT cars at Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia, beating the previous record by 2.074 seconds with this model. Each of the 13 units comes with a premium package, including a custom vehicle cover, racing gear co-designed with PUMA, and a BELL helmet.
A personalised bag and a 1:8 scale model of the car are also included, along with a certificate of authenticity. Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, and Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, highlighted the significance of this edition. They emphasised that it represents both a celebration of the brand’s past and a showcase of its innovative spirit, marking a milestone in Mercedes-AMG’s motorsport legacy.
