The 4th generation BMW X3 hasn’t arrived in Malaysia yet, but the Performance Parts are out.
The BMW X3 may not be the brand’s most popular SAV in Malaysia but it certainly has its fair share of fans with nearly 10,000 units registered in the country since its introduction in 2004 according to data.gov.my. Now with a fourth generation model on the way, can we expect BMW Malaysia to pay greater attention to the way they specify the car in a more competitive premium segment? Well, with the new Performance Parts released globally today, we may have a glimpse into our Malaysian-spec X3 will turn out.
BMW X3 Performance Parts
The latest BMW X3 is a lot sportier than the outgoing model in terms of its design language. Equipped with the M Sport Package or M Sport Package Pro, that performance-oriented look just gets accentuated further.
The Performance Parts from BMW include parts made of exotic materials such as carbon fibre reinforced plastic, high-strength aramid or high-gloss polyurethane.
The M Performance Front Splitter is the highlight of the new range of parts as this will be the first time such an item is being made available for the X3. This three-part front splitter is finished in high-gloss black and can be combined with the M Performance front ornamental grille in the same finish.
DECALS! That’s right M Performance side decals in Frozen Black are now available for the X3 for anyone who likes to ‘sticker up’ their BMW from the factory.
There’s also an M Performance Carbon fuel filler cap with M Performance lettering on brushed aluminium, for those who like to show off at the pumps. Most of the time, these will be hidden away though.
BMW are also offering the X3 with M Carbon exterior mirror caps and an M Performance aerial cover in aramid. Aramid is similar to carbon fibre but allows electromagnetic waves to permeate it, making it more suitable for use as an aerial cover.
The new M Performance rear diffuser is made of aramid as well but can be optioned in high-gloss black polyurethane as well. Regardless of which finish and material is chosen, they are paired to an M Performance rear bumper trim in high-gloss black.
Besides that, there’s an M Performance ‘roof edge spoiler’ which is made of polyurethane and it is finished in high-gloss black by default but can be matched with the body colour. BMW says this piece optimises the aerodynamics of the car.
The M Performance Carbon tailpipe trim is exclusively available on the X3 M50 xDrive, which may not come here are BMW Malaysia doesn’t typically offer standard cars with a 3.0L engine anymore. That being said this part is pretty cool being integrated into the rear apron and bearing an embossed M logo.
Weight-optimised 22″ M Performance light-alloy wheels are also available in Bicolour Jetblack matt finish.
Rounding off the exterior parts, ‘M’ badges can be optioned in high-gloss black. This doesn’t add any performance but is considered a Performance Part by BMW engineers.
