Genting Crash Sees E-Hailing Driver Killed, Passenger Luckily Unhurt Though
This crash should serve as a reminder to always drive safely
A tragic accident on Jalan Genting Highlands yesterday claimed the life of a 68-year-old e-hailing driver while his 70-year-old female passenger emerged unharmed. The collision occurred at approximately 5:30p.m. at Km15.8, when the vehicle, a Perodua Myvi, crashed into a concrete road barrier.
Moreover, the driver, identified as Hon Hoock Chee, suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to District Police Chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, Hon was navigating the vehicle downhill from the Genting Highlands resort towards Klang when the accident happened.
As he reached the specified location, it appears he lost control of the car. The vehicle then veered across the lane and crashed forcefully into the concrete barrier. Superintendent Zaiham confirmed that Hon’s injuries were severe, leading to his immediate death. The passenger, a local woman, was fortunate to escape the incident without injury. She was able to exit the Myvi unharmed despite the severity of the crash.
On top of that, the authorities are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless or negligent driving causing death. Superintendent Zaiham has called for any witnesses to come forward and provide information that may assist in the ongoing investigation.
The police are seeking to piece together the events leading up to the crash to determine the exact cause and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
