Porsche will also soon put up a youtube video on the new Panamera record lap soon
Porsche test driver Lars Kern achieved a remarkable feat on the Nürburgring Nordschleife last Friday, setting a new record lap time of 7:24.17 minutes in the upcoming flagship model of the Panamera series, marking a significant improvement in the luxury class for cars with combustion engines and hybrids.
Kern, renowned for his previous records in the Panamera on this challenging track, highlighted the new model’s advancements in handling and agility, crucial for navigating the demanding corners of the Nordschleife. He emphasised the Porsche Panamera’s enhanced transverse dynamic capabilities, especially noticeable in technical sections like those between ‘Hohe Acht’ and ‘Brünnchen.’
Moreover, the improved lap time of over five seconds compared to its predecessor underscores the continuous evolution of Porsche’s four-door sports car. Kern attributed this achievement to multiple enhancements, not just the powerful electrically assisted eight-cylinder engine but also advancements in powertrain, aerodynamics, chassis, and high-performance Michelin tires.
A pivotal contribution came from the new Porsche Active Ride chassis, which ensures superior stability and responsiveness through corners, enhancing both comfort and performance on the track. Kern expressed confidence in the Panamera’s balance between luxury touring and sports car handling, asserting it offers a unique spectrum unmatched by other Porsche models.
On top of that, during the record attempt, safety measures were paramount with a racing seat and mandatory safety cage, although the vehicle remained largely true to its series production form. Special Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and an optional Carbon Aero Kit, combined with an adaptive 4-way rear spoiler, were instrumental in optimising aerodynamic performance, minimising lift and enhancing overall downforce.
In short, Lars Kern’s record-breaking lap in the new Panamera highlights Porsche’s commitment to pushing performance boundaries while maintaining everyday comfort and safety standards. The achievement not only showcases technological prowess but also reinforces the Panamera’s position at the pinnacle of luxury sports saloons, combining exclusivity with uncompromising driving dynamics on one of the world’s most demanding race circuits.
Stay tuned as Porsche is soon going to upload a video of the Panamera setting this new record on the Nürburgring so you can watch it when it comes out and admire the engineering marvel the car is.
