Electric Car Drivers On The Highway Please Take Note

You cannot charge your Electric Car At The JomCharge x Gentari Behrang R&R Today

This below is the FB message from the service provider.

“Hello all, we have received some feedback today with regards to the JomCharge x Gentari Behrang R&R sites being ‘Under Maintenance’.

We do apologize for any inconvenience caused. The Behrang R&R sites are actually not a conventional EV Charging site, but rather a battery powered EV Charging site.

Most rest-areas are located at remote areas with respect to the electricity grid, hence the lack of sufficient electricity to support EV Chargers there.

This site thus depends on a small trickle of electricity (think of that used to power lighting etc.) that fills the battery up till it is full. We also complement this trickle with that generated from solar.

When a car arrives, we then flush out all the electricity into the car to charge it – a bit like how a small stream of water fills up your toilet bowl, and then you flush it out at high power.

So it takes time to refill the battery up again after 6-7 EVs charge, and due to the extremely high usage rate today the battery is constantly being depleted – and it then goes into ‘Under Maintenance’ mode.

Rest assured we are currently working on ensuring a higher electricity supply here with the relevant authorities, but in the meantime if you find that the Behrang site is under maintenance, feel free to head to the next North bound site which is Petronas JSAS to charge!

Once again, we do apologize for this – Selamat Hari Raya Haji to those celebrating and happy holidays!”

So, EV drivers please take note of issues connected with driving an electric car and seeking charging points.

  1. Electric charging stations rely entirely on a consistent electricity supply, which means they may need to be temporarily shut down during power outages. To ensure uninterrupted service, a reliable power infrastructure and backup supply are crucial.
  2. Challenges may arise from network connection issues; integration, activation, and installation of card reader payments systems; the robustness of hardware subject to weather impacts; customer confusion caused by the various payment methods and user interface design; and maintenance.
  3. Also, there are charging problems that will include broken EV chargers, charging station compatibility issues, charging cable management and unreliable EV charging apps.
