The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) ventures to Thailand’s Chang International Circuit for Rounds 5-6 of the 2024 season, following exciting races in Shanghai and Suzuka. Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti widened his championship lead in Japan with a flawless performance, claiming pole positions and converting them into maximum points for Team Jebsen.
Ghiretti boasts a strong track record in Buriram, with five wins in 2018 during his Formula 4 South East Asia title victory and a podium in the F3 Asian Winter series the following year. After Buriram, Ghiretti will attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans as PCCA’s VIP guest, an honour for his season-topping performance.
Moreover, Dylan Pereira, the 2022 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup champion, secured two second-place finishes in Japan, maintaining pressure on Ghiretti, while Mathys Jaubert of TORO Racing continued his perfect podium streak. An impressive performance, no doubt. Let’s see if he can manage a higher position finish.
Martin Ragginger of Porsche Holding garnered solid points with fourth-place finishes in Suzuka, aiming to repeat his podium success in Buriram from 2016. Rodrigo Dias Almeida and Ling Kang are also set to continue their consistent performances.
On top of that, Nazim Azman of Sime Darby Racing Team, who faced challenges in Suzuka, will return for Round 5, determined to tackle the Chang International Circuit. In the Pro-Am category, reigning champion Bao Jinlong clinched four consecutive class victories, while Li Zhicong joined the Trans-China Automotive Racing team in his debut with the Porsche 922 GT3 Cup (992).
Meanwhile, in the Am category, Eric Kwong of Bergwerk Motorsport secured his fourth consecutive class victory, engaging in a thrilling battle with Munkong Sathienthirakul of EBM Giga Racing. The latter, a local favourite, seeks to close the gap to the championship leader on his home track.
What’s more, the Chang International Circuit, visited first by PCCA in 2015, offers exciting racing with overtaking opportunities and technical challenges. Porsche Thailand will host an event at the venue, featuring on-track activities, including hot laps and coaching sessions with various Porsche road cars and the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992).
On-track action begins with Free Practice 1 and 2 on Friday morning, followed by qualifying sessions later that day. The first race commences on Saturday morning, with Round 6 later in the afternoon. Don’t miss it.
