The Ford Ranger Stormtrak slots in above the Wildtrak with new equipment and the same power.
Back in April 2023, Ford Thailand showed off the all-new Ranger Stormtrak at the Bangkok Motor Show. This nameplate was first seen in 2021 on the previous Ranger generation but only in certain markets like the UK.
The new Ford Ranger Stormtrak is now expected to go on sale in Malaysia, with official distributors Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) teasing its arrival and giving us an official date for online bookings. That date is 30 May 2024. What’s more, the Ranger Stormtrak will be available for the public to view between 30 May 2024 and 2 June 2024 at One Utama Luxe, New Wing.
Officially, the teaser from SDAC doesn’t specifically name the Ranger Stormtrak and instead refers to it as a Limited Edition Ranger. We are pretty much sure it’s the Stormtrak based on the teaser video that shows the red-orange rim accent from the model. They also showed a closeup of the Stormtrak’s unique grille pattern (above).
SDAC also emphasize that they’re only bringing in very limited quantities of the Stormtrak, so booking it online at this link may be your only chance to secure a spot… Wait until 30th May though.
What’s Different About The Ranger Stormtrak?
The Ranger Stormtrak is positioned between the Wildtrak and the Raptor, but is a lot closer to the Wildtrak. It builds on the same fundamentals with a 2.0L turbodiesel 4-cylinder bi-turbo engine good for 210PS and 500Nm of torque. The gearbox is a 10-speed conventional automatic with 2WD, 4×4 lo and high ranges available with an electronic shift-on-the-fly system.
Mechanically, the Stormtrak isn’t any different from the Wildtrak, but what sets it apart is the equipment and aesthetics. The biggest eye-catcher is spoiler-like flexible sports bar, which can slide along the rear. It also comes with an adjustable roof rack and an add-on powered tailgate cover is available. There are three LED points on the front grille and the grille frame itself is a little different. The “Ranger” nameplate is also spelled out on the bonnet. The rims are larger 20″ alloys painted in gloss black with a red accent piece. The wheel arches and wing mirror caps are finished in black as well. There are Stormtrak badges on the doors and tailgate with new line-themed decals. In Thailand, the Sedona Orange paint colour is a special cost option.
On the inside, the Stormtrak gets upgrades as well. The digital instrument panel is 12.4″ across instead of just 8″ on the Wildtrak. There are orange accents and Stormtrak logos on the front seats and dashboard.
