It looks like the Xiaomi SU7 may have to be discontinued very soon
Since the Xiaomi SU7 commenced deliveries on 3 April 2024, there have been numerous reports of accidents and malfunctions involving the vehicle. However, the most recent incident is perhaps the most peculiar to date. The car broke down after travelling only 39km and is irreparable, necessitating its return to the factory for analysis.
Many details surrounding this incident remain unclear. What is known is that Mr. Wen, an early purchaser of the Xiaomi SU7 who had eagerly awaited its arrival for over a month, received his car from the Xiaomi Auto Xiamen Xing’an Delivery Center in Fujian Province on 4 May 2024. This was shortly after the car’s launch on 28 March 2024.
Moreover, On 6 May 2024, Mr. Wen posted a video on social media stating that his Xiaomi SU7 had malfunctioned at high speed shortly after leaving the 4S store, having travelled just 39km. He reported that the car had to be towed back to the delivery centre, with the breakdown believed to have occurred on 5 May 2024.
According to Mr. Wen, the infotainment unit displayed messages indicating critical faults in the drive system, preventing him from shifting gears and eventually leading to the car’s shutdown. The Xiang’an Delivery Center confirmed on 7 May 2024 that they had received Mr. Wen’s complaint but were unable to diagnose the problem.
Subsequent reports also indicated that the Xiaomi SU7 could not be repaired locally and would need to be sent back to the factory for a comprehensive analysis. Surprisingly, Mr. Wen opted for a replacement car rather than a refund, expressing dissatisfaction over the inability to immediately receive a replacement.
On top of that, he stated, “I want a car, not a return, and I don’t want to place a new order and wait for production.” However, due to production scheduling and the allocation of cars to other customers, providing an immediate replacement was not feasible. Xiaomi’s customer service is reportedly negotiating a refund and compensating Mr. Wen for his expenses.
Despite its recent entry into the market, Xiaomi has already achieved considerable success, ranking sixth in sales of new energy vehicles priced above 200,000 yuan this year. However, with so many quality concerns and breakdowns, the car and by extension, the brand, may be discontinued or forced to shut down very soon.
