These massive numbers were driven by overwhelming demand for the Porsche Cayenne
In the first quarter of the year, Porsche maintained a stable level of deliveries, with a total of 77,640 vehicles handed over to customers worldwide, marking a moderate decline of 4 percent compared to the previous year and shows that the brand is still very much desirable in the grand scheme of things.
In Europe (excluding Germany), Porsche delivered 20,044 cars, up by 9 percent from the same period last year. In Germany, the number of vehicles delivered surged by 37 percent, totaling 11,274 units. This is a good number for the brand as well as for cars in general as it shows that internal combustion engine (ICE) cars still have a place in this new electric vehicle (EV) world.
Moreover, in China, Porsche delivered 16,340 vehicles, this, in contrast to the European sales, represents a 24 percent decrease due to a shift towards value-oriented sales and ongoing economic challenges, compounded by strong sales during the same period last year following post-Covid catch-up effects.
In North America, Porsche delivered 15,087 vehicles, a 23 percent decline primarily attributed to customs-related delays in shipping certain models. Meanwhile, overseas and emerging markets saw an increase of 14 percent, with 14,895 cars delivered.
On top of that, the Porsche Cayenne led in deliveries with 28,025 units, a 20 percent increase, while the Porsche Macan saw a decrease of 14 percent, delivering to 20,576 customers, mainly due to strong sales during the previous year. This is in line with the newer trend of SUVs being more popular than sedans.
Interest in the new all-electric generation of the SUV is high, with numerous orders received, and deliveries are set to commence in the second half of the year. The iconic 911 sports car remained popular, with 12,892 units sold globally, a 17 percent increase, while the Panamera saw a decline of 28 percent, delivering to 6,139 customers due to ongoing model changes.
Similarly, the Porsche Taycan experienced a decrease, with 4,236 deliveries in the first quarter, down by 54 percent as the current model cycle nears its end. However, the new versions of the model offer enhanced performance, range, acceleration, and shorter charging times, with deliveries set to begin in April.
The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models also posted 5,772 deliveries, representing a 20 percent increase.
