The Toyota Mirai is set to advance sustainability for everyone here in Malaysia
UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), in collaboration with the Malaysian Government, reinforces its commitment to a sustainable future by promoting a multi-pathway approach to clean energy, highlighted in a significant hydrogen-powered mobility solution demonstration session with it’s Mirai hydrogen vehicle (FCEV) leading the electrifying charge.
Affirming the nation’s commitment towards the development of green technologies, in line with achieving a carbon-neutral target by 2050, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister, experienced the demonstration firsthand by test driving the Toyota Mirai alongside YB Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).
Moreover, this collaborative effort emphasises the importance of economic diversification and energy security in the nation’s strategy to diversify its energy sources. As the Toyota Mirai is already in use in Sarawak by its premier, it is about time that we here in the Peninsular also catch up with their sustainability efforts.
Representing UMWT at the event, Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMWT, stated, “As a mobility company focused on advancing sustainable transportation solutions, UMW Toyota Motor is thrilled to play a part in this effort.”
“This initiative strengthens our commitment to a multi-pathways approach to achieving carbon neutrality, aligning with Malaysia’s ambitious goal of becoming a carbon-neutral nation by 2050. Through this collaboration, we are excited to showcase the technological strengths of the Toyota Mirai. Using fuel cell technology, the Mirai combines hydrogen with the air to generate its own electricity, emitting nothing but water” He continued.
On top of that, the Toyota Mirai, which means ‘future’ in Japanese, is a representation of the potential and viability of hydrogen as a key component of Malaysia’s diverse and sustainable energy portfolio. Being an FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) and hydrogen powered, this car reduces carbon emissions significantly.
This aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and HETR’s strategic objectives, illustrating UMWT’s dedication to fostering a competitive hydrogen ecosystem and contributing towards the nation’s carbon neutrality ambitions. This joint effort represents a step towards reducing carbon emissions and positions Malaysia as a regional leader in embracing cutting-edge and environmentally conscious technologies.
It also serves as a symbolic gesture towards promoting the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles, which have the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector when widely adopted. This collaboration reflects the commitment of both public and private efforts to drive positive change and usher in a cleaner and greener future.
