Suzuki GSX-8R introduces an exciting new expression of sport-bike
This Suzuki GSX-8R is designed to deliver performance, and riding pleasure. Controllable, agile, and designed to satisfy, whether riding around town or heading out for a sporty run through winding mountain roads on the weekend, the GSX-8R is destined to appeal to customers across a wide range of ages and levels of experience.
Right now this bike is priced at about RM51,000 in Japan and we are guessing a Malaysian selling price of about RM7,000 to RM9,000 more which will put a sticker price of about RM58k. The immediate rival starts with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR at an estimated RM50k and the Triumph Daytona 660 at about RM50,900.
Please take note that Yamaha R7 has been on sale since 2023 for a premium RM79k.
The GSX-8R joins the GSX-S series alongside its sibling GSX-8S, featuring distinctively Suzuki sport-bike looks that excite the rider in anticipation of sport-oriented performance and optimal comfort.
The GSX-8R builds on the solid engineering advances of the GSX-8S. At the core is Suzuki’s new-generation parallel-twin 776cc DOHC engine with the frame built around it to form a perfect package.
Every aspect of the design is geared toward delivering a satisfying experience to riders who desire more power than a 650cc class sport-bike can deliver, who aspire to ride a bike with the sharp styling of an elegant sport-bike, and who desire a satisfying ride that is reassuring and reliable.
The chassis and free-revving engine respond faithfully in a willing manner that makes the rider’s style and preferences the focus of riding pleasure on every outing. Riders can easily tap its full potential and enjoy an exhilarating ride they can continue to enjoy for many years.
Wrapped in the unique styling of a thoroughly modern interpretation of Suzuki’s sport-bike heritage, the GSX-8R features an aggressive, mass-forward look that is slim, compact, well balanced, and ready for action.
Sharp, controlled handling is a Suzuki sport-bike standard so the GSX-8R uses SHOWA’s SFF-BP inverted fork and matching rear shock for precise action. The ABS-equipped NISSIN radial-mounted 4-piston brake calipers with dual 310mm front brake rotors provide sure and linear stopping power. Dunlop’s RoadS port 2 radial tires (120/70ZR17 at the front; 180/55ZR17 at the rear) were designed for the GSX-8R to deliver the right combination of agility and grip.
The GSX-8R’s compact 776cc parallel-twin engine uses a 270-degree firing order for strong torque production and is equipped with Suzuki’s exclusive Cross Balancer system for smooth operation. Suzuki’s Clutch Assist System (SCAS) smooth shifting and engine braking while shifting has never been easier with the standard Bi-directional Quick Shift system.
Another advantage the GSX-8R has over its competitors is the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) suite of electronic rider aids that include a three-mode Suzuki Drive Mode Selector and the four-mode Advanced Traction Control System plus the popular Easy Start & Low RPM Assist systems. It easy to keep tabs on the GSX-8R through its full-color 5-inch TFT instrument panel which has the best format in its class.
