Audi has issued an urgent airbag inflator recall for 2,297 vehicles sold in Malaysia.
PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) urges Audi owners to promptly address the ongoing airbag recall. This follows the Volkswagen Takata Airbag recall campaign that was initiated by Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia last year. The recall encompasses 2,297 vehicles, including Audi Q5, A5 Cabriolet, and A5 Sportback models from 2009 to 2012, as well as Audi TT and R8 models from 2014 to 2017 equipped with Takata airbags on the driver’s side.
Additionally, it includes Takata airbags for the passenger side in Audi A4, A4 Cabriolet, and A6 vehicles manufactured between 2005 and 2011. Presently, only 569 vehicles out of 2,297, accounting for a 25% uptake rate, have undergone the necessary actions. Here it is in table form:
Year Made | Model | Airbags Affected |
2005-2011 | A4 | Driver & Passenger |
2005-2011 | A4 Cabriolet | Driver & Passenger |
2009-2012 | A5 Cabriolet | Driver |
2009-2012 | A5 Sportback | Driver |
2005-2011 | A6 | Driver & Passenger |
2009-2012 | Q5 | Driver |
2004-2017 | TT | Driver |
2004-2017 | R8 | Driver |
Takata, the manufacturer, highlights that the gas generator in the affected Takata front airbags might rupture during an accident if the propellant shows signs of aging due to extreme environmental factors. This rupture can propel metal fragments through the passenger compartment, posing severe risks to occupants.
Owners are strongly advised to promptly inspect and replace their airbags at an Audi Service Centre to uphold high safety standards for their vehicles. Depending on the Takata airbag type and car model, either a component propellant or complete driver airbag module replacement will be undertaken at no expense. Additionally, owners will receive a complimentary 20-point vehicle check following the inspection as a gesture of appreciation.
To determine if their vehicle is affected, owners can visit the Audi website and input their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) located at the bottom left of the front windshield. Alternatively, they can reach out to Audi Customer Service at 1-800-22-2834, email [email protected], or contact their nearest Audi Centre to schedule a complimentary inspection and replacement if necessary.
