BYD Atto 3 Standard Range new selling price was just RM149,800
In Early December 2022, Sime Darby Motors and BYD Auto China rocked the electric car and also petrol vehicle segment in Malaysia with the launch of the Atto 3 full electric Crossover.
This was the very first BYD passenger vehicle to be introduced in Malaysia and being a full electric vehicle it enjoyed import duty exemptions.
Sales were very spirited and even the petrol powered rivals were surprised with some of their customers opting for the Atto 3 instead of their popular petrol sipping Crossovers.
This value-for-money, attractive Chinese made EV crossover was sold with a 12.8″ rotating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Portable Key Card, Auto air conditioning, 4 USB ports, full LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a 5″ digital instrument cluster, full synthetic leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, with support for DC Fast Charging and Vehicle-to-Load power supply.
The ‘extended range’ version came with a larger battery capacity, 18” wheels, faster DC charging, a one-touch tailgate, multi-colour ambient lighting, an 8-speaker Dirac HD sound system, a wireless Qi charger and a PM 22.5 air filter. It was priced a little higher at RM167,800.
So, you pay RM18k more for the ‘extended range’ Atto 3 to get more importantly an added 70 km of electric driving range.
BYD managed to attract a sizeable number of Malaysian customers with its 6-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, 8-year/160,000km battery warranty, and an 8-year/150,000km drive unit warranty.
Today, just 14 months after its launch, we see a number of used units in our used car classifieds and the used prices are not that tempting as BYD Malaysia has just offered 2023 ‘Standard Range ‘ units from only RM129,800 which gives you a brand new EV with a possible 400km of driving range.
So, you might ask why are some Atto 3 owners are selling their electric cars? Well, it might be difficult access to charging infrastructure or like with other used EV owners, the lost ‘sparkle’ in waiting time to charge their battery, or even, the issue of range anxiety that some EV owners face when living in areas without charging stations.
With the EV NEW selling price war escalating right now between the RM119,800 Ora Good Cat, the RM146,800 Chery Omoda E5, the RM149,000 MG4 LUX and the RM129,800 BYD Atto 3, the used prices for all electric cars will be dropping as new electric car prices move downwards.
It is a good time for Malaysian electric car buyers.
