Jaguar XJ 3.6 Crushed And Unloved In Malaysia

How did this Jaguar XJ get into this situation

Jaguar buyers in Malaysia have been buying their British made luxury vehicles from SISMA Auto since 1994.  This is the automotive arm of the SISMA Group of Companies. SISMA Auto was founded by the late Dato’ Syed Ibrahim Syed Mohamed and his brother, Syed Hussain Syed Mohamed, the current Chairman.

So, before 1994, who sold Jaguar cars in Malaysia? Was it Wearnes Brothers or was it Champion Motors?

Here we were shared by a DSF.my reader this very ‘sad’ picture of the Jaguar XJ 3.6L badly damaged and left in a car junkyard.  Looks like it rolled or hit the rear of a large trailer. Definitely not repairable. Hope the passenger’s got away safely.

Today, this car in great running condition can be yours from RM90k to RM160k.

Meanwhile, in case you were wondering, the Jaguar XJ was unveiled to the world in September 1975 at Longbridge, the traditional home of its volume car division. The XJ superseded the iconic and very desired Jaguar E-Type (also known as XK-E).

The development of the XJ started in the late 1960s as project XJ27, with an initial shape set by Malcolm Sayer, but after his death in 1970 it was completed by the in-house Jaguar design team, headed by Doug Thorpe.

Power for the launch variant came from the Jaguar V12 petrol engine with a choice of a manual or automatic transmission, but the manual was soon dropped as they were left over from V12 E Type production.

V12 automobiles were unusual at the time and it was just Italian luxury sports car makers Lamborghini and Ferrari that were producing such models.

The specifications of the XJ-S compared well with both Italian sports car manufacturer. Interestingly, it was able to accelerate to 60 mph from standstill in 7.6 seconds (for the automatic) and had a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

The first series of XJ-S cars had a Borg-Warner Model 12 transmission with a cast-iron case and a bolt-on bell-housing. In 1977 GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmissions were fitted.

The TH400 transmission was an all-aluminium alloy case with an integrated non-detachable bell-housing. The XJ-S was originally supplied with Dunlop SP Super E205/70VR tires on 15 × 6K alloy wheels. Additionally, the British police upgraded their Jaguars to a higher-performing 205/70VR15 Michelin XWX .

At launch the XJ-S was powered by a 285bhp fuel injected 5.3-litre V12 engine and was available in manual and automatic guise. The four-speed manual gearbox had first seen the light of day back in 1964, and was at the limit of its torque capabilities when married with the V12.

A further disadvantage was its lack of overdrive where it was an era when all of its rivals were moving to five-speed transmission. Only 352 manual XJ-Ss were produced before the option was withdrawn in 1979.
