It seems like just yesterday we had the launch of the new BMW 1 Series, and the facelift model is already rolling out across the world. With nearly 2 million units sold worldwide over the last decade, the 1 Series is viewed as a modest entry level BMW, with all the German technology and engineering you would expect.
Styling for the current generation 1 Series has always been a little bit of hit and miss, and this face lift brings the 1 Series styling more in line with the range. The front end has headlights that are less angular and the front is not nearly as flat as before (something more 5 Series than 3 Series). Air intakes on the front are larger as well, leaning towards M-Sport and M car-esque styling, but standard across the range.
The rear end gets a complete change: tail lights used to be far too similar to a Volkswagen Polo, but now the lights are more akin to a BMW X1 with inner edges that cut across the rear hatch.
As usual, engines get minor changes here along with a few brand new powerplants that are unlikely to be imported to Malaysia. Interiors also benefit from subtle changes here and there, but being a face lift one wouldn’t expect night-and-day modifications.
