Range Rover EV Bookings Open In Europe, Malaysia Soon?

Land Rover begins taking bookings for its electric Range Rover SUV in Europe

Land Rover, part of Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) has officially begun accepting bookings for its all-electric Range Rover Electric SUV. in Europe. With electric vehicles (EVs) being very popular (increasingly less popular as time goes by) among Malaysia’s elite, will this premium EV SUV be available for booking in Malaysia also soon?

We all know that Malaysia does not allow the sales of imported EVs below RM100,000 so naturally, the only Malaysians who can afford most EVs are the very wealthy anyway and JLR is known for being the same, so this SUV’s target audience is also very obvious right from the get go as well.

Moreover, Land Rover is already testing its first Range Rover EV, and says it will be the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever and feature active road-noise cancellation to enhance the its intrinsic silence relative to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Now, the brand has also opened up a wait list for interested buyers.

However, being a Range Rover, silence and refinement will take a backseat to off-road capability, which it turns out is another thing EVs are good at. For the skeptic, consider the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and Rivian’s R1S and R1T pickup trucks, which all excel at off-roading.

On top of that, Land Rover says testing of its first EV mules is taking place “from Sweden to Dubai, in temperatures ranging from minus 40 Fahrenheit to 122.” Additionally, the EV SUV also promises a wading depth of up to 33.4 inches making it ideal for off-roading, though with the batteries being on the floor, it may not be safe.

The Range Rover Electric will be built in the U.K. on the same Modular Longitudinal Architecture that underpins current petrol-powered Range Rovers. The brand says it will have an 800-volt electrical system to maximize charging speed and it will have performance comparable to a V8 powered SUV from the brand.

Land Rover also says the Range Rover Electric will arrive sometime in 2024, and a wait list is open now for buyers who want to be first in line when it does. Since Malaysia is one of the many markets where big premium SUVs sell rather well, then surely, JLR will consider our market very soon as well.

While there are no official pictures of this Range Rover EV just yet, we know that it will likely feature the same overall design language that the current lineup of ICE SUVs but may deviate slightly as far as the grille is concerned.
