TRX Underground Tunnel Is Going To Revolutionise Connectivity In KL

With the TRX Exchange opening on 29 November, KL may see reduced traffic congestion

The Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Kuala Lumpur’s ambitious international financial centre, has recently unveiled its comprehensive road network and The Exchange, a retail marvel, to the public on 29 November 2023 and this road network is set to revolutionise KL connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the city.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi highlights the strategic planning behind the project, aiming to reduce traffic congestion by 30 percent. The road network, connected to major roads and highways, also features a 5km underground tunnel, forming a loop system for convenient access to various development points.

Moreover, the TRX road network, which opened on 29 November 2023, marks a significant milestone in Kuala Lumpur’s urban development. Alexander acknowledges the extensive strategic planning behind TRX’s road infrastructure and the benefits it could potentially yield.

TRX City Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Azmar Talib also underlines the importance of the RM3 billion investment in an underground tunnel, emphasising TRX’s role as a transit-oriented development. The project’s national scale aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur by an estimated 30 percent.

Alexander also highlighted the collaborative effort with DBKL, particularly the recently completed Jalan Tun Razak Traffic Dispersal project, which alone is anticipated to reduce traffic into the city by about 30 percent.

On top of that, while initially envisioned as an international financial centre, TRX has evolved into a comprehensive urban ecosystem, integrating sustainability standards, inviting public spaces, and exceptional connectivity all in one place.

The road network, connected to 12 major roads and highways, features a 5km underground tunnel connecting Jalan Tun Razak and SMART highway, forming a loop system. This innovation facilitates easy access to development points, reduces traffic volume, and streamlines parking within the loop tunnel and helps reduce traffic as well.

As the TRX road network promises enhanced connectivity for Kuala Lumpur, The Exchange TRX, the retail component of the Exchange, also opened its doors on 29 November 2023. Developed by Lendlease and TRX City Sdn Bhd, this joint venture is set within the Exchange’s international financial district.

Offering a shopping, dining, leisure, and entertainment destination, The Exchange boasts an impressive occupancy rate of 95 percent, and features over 400 stores across 1.3 million square feet of net lettable area. The retail precinct promises to be a dynamic addition to the Exchange, further contributing to the transformation of Kuala Lumpur’s cityscape.
