The 6th generation Honda CR-V is arriving in December 2023 and is now open for booking in Malaysia.
When it comes to Japanese mass-market SUVs, the Honda CR-V is the undisputed champion. Honda Malaysia has been selling it as a CKD model since 2003 and now a 6th generation model is open for booking. The all-new Honda CR-V will be launched in Malaysia next month, bringing extensive upgrades and never-before-seen options for the nameplate.
In terms of powertrains, Malaysians will have two choices on the new CR-V. The 1.5L VTEC turbo 4-cylinder engine makes its return with 193PS and 243Nm of torque being sent to the wheels via a CVT. New in this generation is the optional 2.0L e:HEV hybrid powertrain, which combines an Atkinson cycle petrol motor, an improved Hybrid Traction Motor and an e-CVT for 184PS and 335Nm of torque while offering unbeatable fuel efficiency in the segment.
We’ll have to wait for more details on which variants get all-wheel drive, but in Thailand both the turbo and hybrid models are available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive as well.
It’s also worth noting that the new CR-V e:HEV RS hybrid model gets unique styling with a unique front grille with a bold mesh pattern, sleek door handles and “Berlina Black” 18″ alloy wheels. The hybrid model also gets an Active Shutter Grille on the front lower bumper for improved aerodynamics and optimised cooling. Expect full LED lighting on the exterior including sequential turn signals.
While the extensive equipment list and breakdown per variant is still withheld, Honda Malaysia has promised the following features will be coming:
- powered tailgate with hands-free and remote operation and walk-away auto closing
- 360-degree multi-view parking camera system
- Upgraded Honda Sensing ADAS system with wide-angle radar, camera, and sonar sensors for low speed braking control
- Adaptive Driving beam on the e:HEV RS model
- Improved Lane Keep Assist System
- Honda Connect
Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hironobu Yoshimura said, “The CR-V has a 20-year history as the first Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) model to roll out from our Melaka manufacturing plant in 2003. With a legacy that predates this milestone, our flagship SUV has had a profound impact on the automotive industry in Malaysia, winning the hearts of generations of owners. To-date, the CR-V has sold more than 129,000 units, solidifying its position as one of Honda Malaysia’s highest contributors to our sales history. With the imminent launch of the All-New CR-V, we anticipate its continued dominance in the Non-National SUV segment.” Mr. Yoshimura added, “Re-engineered with a comprehensive SUV package, we are confident that the 6th Generation All-New CR-V will once again set a new benchmark in the Non-National SUV segment and captivate the hearts of Malaysians who seek an SUV that embodies elegance and confidence while delivering an exhilarating driving experience.”
