Tesla has launched the new Model 3 in Malaysia alongside the company’s first flagship experience centre in the country.
At an event this morning, Tesla Malaysia launched the new Model 3. The car was first revealed globally in early September and its arrival in Malaysia was to be expected as order taking and pricing was almost immediately confirmed. At the Model 3 launch event, they also introduced the new Tesla Experience Centre in Pavilion Damansara Heights.
The New Tesla Model 3
This the second vehicle to be launched by the brand in Malaysia and it’s a facelift to the best selling electric sedan in the world. In Malaysia there will be two versions at launch – Rear-Wheel Drive and Dual Motor Long Range – no third high-performance variant will be introduced for now. Delivery of the Model 3 in Malaysia begins in Q4 2023.
The Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive comes with a single motor on the rear axle and it has a range of 513km. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes just 6.1 seconds. The vehicle comes with a 4-year/80,000km warranty but its battery and drive unit comes with a longer 8-year/160,000km warranty. Base pricing will be RM189,000, but this can quickly add up as there are cost options for the colour of the exterior, interior, wheels, and “Self-Driving” capability. The Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive version costs RM218,000 and has 629km of range and accelerates to 100km/h from a standstill in 4.4 seconds.
Features that are being touted are:
- customisable ambient lighting
- an 8″ rear display with climate controls and entertainment
- all-glass roof with ultraviolet protection
- ventilated seats
- centre console with storage and dual wireless charging
- up to 17-speakers
Options for the Model 3
Pearl White Multi-Coat is the standard paint option. Solid Black and Deep Blue Metallic are available for an additional RM5,000, Stealth Grey comes in at RM7,500 and there’s Ultra Red for RM11,000. The 18″ Photon wheels are standard on both versions of the Model 3, but these can be upgraded to 19″ Nova wheels for RM7,500. A Black interior is standard, but the upgrade to Black and White costs RM5,000. Tesla Malaysia are charging RM32,000 for “All functionality of Basic Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot”, though it is unclear if this is available in our market at launch. There’s also a 30-day free trial to “Premium Connectivity”, but no price is listed for this. Customers will receive 8-years of “Standard Connectivity” with navigation features upon delivery of the product.
Tesla Flagship Centre
The new Tesla Experience Centre is located at the recently-opened Pavilion Damansara Heights mall. The centre spans about 3,000 square feet and will showcase the Model 3 and Model Y alongside Tesla’s charging solutions and merchandise.
