Nissan Hyper Tourer Might Be An Electric Elgrand Reborn

The Nissan Hyper Tourer is an electric minivan for the future.

Nissan has been giving their EV concepts digital debuts ahead of the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. First we saw the Hyper Urban, then the Hyper Adventure and now we’re getting a preview of the Nissan Hyper Tourer.

The Nissan Hyper Tourer is a conceptual all-electric minivan that might just replace or complement the Elgrand. The Nissan Elgrand actually had a head start over the Toyota Alphard but has lost the lead by a dramatic margin, especially in the grey market. For now, Toyota has shown no indication that they will create an electric version of the Alphard. Not even when Akio Toyoda previewed more than 15 Toyota and Lexus EV prototypes did we see something Alphard-shaped. This could be Nissan’s chance to take the lead once again in a new segment – the electric minivan.

About The Nissan Hyper Tourer Concept

Nissan designed the Hyper Tourer concept to cater to individuals who appreciate the finer things in life and built in the essence of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) with various advanced technologies, including self-driving capability.

It has been imagined with a very high-capacity battery that would not only serve to deliver longer driving range, but to also allow the Hyper Tourer to be functional as a battery bank with its Vehicle-to-Everything charging capability.

The design of the car is defined by smooth body panels with sharp character lines that’s both imposing and aerodynamic. The white waistline wraps around the entire vehicle and serves as headlight and signature lamp up front. The large wheels feature a ‘kumiko’ pattern while sharp edges of the body allow designers to maximize interior space while achieving an upmarket look.

If this goes into production, Nissan will use all-solid-state batteries to create the battery pack. This high energy density design allows for a low centre of gravity for better packaging of the interior. Nissan will also use e-4ORCE all-wheel drive for smooth and flat acceleration and deceleration. Japanese ‘Kumiko’ and ‘Koushi’ patterns are the inspiration for the car’s ambient lighting signature. In this concept, there’s a flat LED panel in the floor that displays a riverbed and the sky to create a relaxing space for the occupants.

The concept’s fully automous driving direction means that the driver’s seat can swivel around fully to allow for front-and-rear seat passengers to have more organic discussions. Nissan imagine an AI system that monitors the biometerics of the occupants to select appropriate music to suit the mood. This is truly a vehicle for group road trips of the future.
