Will the Dongfeng Voyah Dreamer arrive to challenge the Alphard
On 12 October 2023, Dongfeng officially launched the 2024 Voyah Dreamer MPV in China with four variants to choose from in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric (EV) powertrains. It is looking like a really nice alternative to something like the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire so will it sell here?
Priced between 339,900 to 469,900 yuan (about RM220,108 to RM304,364), as well as a customized model also being offered, with a price of 639,900 yuan (about RM414655). Bringing the MPV here to Malaysia would mean it can likely undercut the price of the new upcoming Toyota Alphard and Vellfire models, after all, every other Chinese car has undercut the competition so far, so why stop now?
Moreover, being a facelift model, the 2024 Voyah Dreamer’s powertrain and battery life were optimized while its size was not changed remaining at 5315mm in length, 1985mm in width and 1820mm in height, with a 3200mm wheelbase. It can be had in four exterior colors, namely purple, black, gold, and white.
On the inside, the Voyah Dreamer may not look as fancy as the new Toyota Alphard or Vellfire, but it sure does look premium. This may not be as big a deal to the more eco conscious Dato’ out there who would rather brag about his “Alphard or Vellfire” being an EV or a hybrid while everyone else is sticking to petrol.
Speaking of, the PHEV and EV powertrains on the 2024 Voyah Dreamer are more than capable of ferrying any VIP in comfort as the PHEV model is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and dual motors, with a combined system power of 420kW and 840Nm of torque.
More specifically, the engine outputs 110kW of power and the front motor outputs 150kW while the rear motor outputs 160kW. This gives the massive MPV an official century sprint time of 5.9 seconds, the CLTC pure electric cruising range is 236km, and the CLTC comprehensive cruising range can go as high as 1231km.
On top of that, the EV 2024 Voyah Dreamer model adopts a dual-motor layout with a combined maximum power and torque of 320kW and 620Nm of torque. Its 108.73 kWh ternary lithium battery pack provides a CLTC pure electric cruising range of 650km which is good for a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds as well.
For 2024, level 2 advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) featuring 25 functionalities including autonomous parking, remote control parking, lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning have been added. The standard trunk volume is 427 liters, which is equivalent to eight 20-inch suitcases.
