The BMW X2 gets renewed for a 2nd generation and now comes with an all-electric variant, the iX2.
The BMW X2 is a fairly new addition to the lineup for BMW. It debuted in late 2017 and was marketed as a Sports Activity Coupé – a fashionable and upmarket alternative to the popular BMW X1. Now the 2nd generation model BMW X2 has been revealed, with an even more… distinctive look, shall we say?
The new X2 is larger and has a more pronounced ‘coupé’ roofline but perhaps the most important change is the addition of the iX2 variant – an all-electric version of the car.
The model spread is as follows:

BMW plans to introduce an additional iX2 variant and one more diesel-powered X2 in Q3 next year.
About the New BMW X2 & iX2
These new compact SAVs are produced on a single assembly line at the Regensburg plant. The same plant is used to produce the battery packs for the iX2 itself. Compared to the outgoing X2 model, the new generation car is 194mm longer, 21mm wider and 64mm taller with a larger wheelbase and tracks. The boot space has also been increased to 560L (expandable to 1,470L) on the new X2 while the iX2 offers 525L (expandable to 1,400L).
BMW has gone for a very upright hexagonal grille with the optional Iconic Glow contour lighting on the new X2. You get a Gurney-style spoiler around back and overall it’s a strange blend of angular elements with gently curving body panels. It’s a little unfortunate that the design doesn’t immediately scream classy or sophisticated, but we’ll reserve judgement for when we see the vehicle in real life.
M-specific design features can be optioned in and this includes integrated quad exhausts and aero-optimised exterior trim. There’s also the M Sport package Pro for shadowline exterior trim, red-painted callipers and more.
The iX2 is equipped with aero-optimised 17″ light alloy wheels, while the base X2 comes with 18″ wheels. The X2 M35i xDrive leaves the factory with 20″ M light-alloy rims, but all variants can be upgraded with wheels ranging from 18″-21″ from the showroom.
Inside, you’ll find the BMW Curved Display now running BMW Operating System 9. This includes the new BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades, an eSIM with 5G connectivity, BMW Digital Key Plus, BMW ID functionality and more.
The cabin also features a floating armrest with an integral control panel, a wireless charging pad, Veganza and Vernasca leather upholstery options, optional sports seats, electric seat adjustment, massage functionality and more. Standard equipment now includes a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a Sport leather steering wheel, an automatic tailgate, four USB-C ports, a 12V socket, and more driver assistance systems and digital services than the outgoing model.
